I get it. It’s been a protracted battle within the Democratic Party and BERNIE STILL HASN’T CONCEDED! You’re SO MAD! #NeverHillary in the face of a DONALD TRUMP PRESIDENCY??? WHO ARE THESE IDIOTS?!? You just want to HURL INSULTS AND CUTTING JIBES AGAINST THESE DOWNRIGHT RUDE BERNIE FANS THAT……………
Stop.
Just, stop.
Remember where you are. Remember where the Democratic Party is. Remember where America is. And breathe.
Ready? Here’s something irrefutable to guide you in the days between now and the convention: The best fit is Bernie fans ditch the sour grapes for November, stay engaged into 2017 and beyond while all Hillary fans have to do is just show a little grace between now and then. That’s all. A little grace. In yesterday’s speech Bernie said no matter what happened Trump must be destroyed and destroyed badly, the Democratic Party needs a transformation which I think most of us on this site knows to be true, and to strengthen the Progressive roots by running for office. That's a leader right there. It’s no longer an either/or. Clinton fans just need to show a little grace and there’s a chance these great many young folks will be effective, change-making Democrats for life, which is what everybody in the Democratic party should want. I doubt very much Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren would disagree with any of this.
And if you can’t make that turn, if your bitterness from this protracted battle blinds you to this historic, game-changing opportunity for the Democratic Party and America in general, then I have to say; maybe the more angry Bernie fans aren’t the only folks that have some growing up to do. You’re just as wrong as they are, more-so because you’re poisoning the very thing that needs encouragement and growth and which many of us thought was unobtainable: progressive, political engagement from America’s youth. You’re asking them to hold their nose and vote for a candidate they don’t agree with, how about you hold your nose, show a little grace and actually help them come to the right place for November? Ultimately, if you’re a Hillary fan and can’t find anything nice to say to these quite often young, enthusiastic new voters then the best thing you can do for Hillary and the Democratic party is just pour yourself a drink and STFU.
Instead of throwing rocks (or throwing rocks back, hey, I get it), find a way to insert the word ‘friend’ in there without being condescending. Acknowledge their value both now and in the future should they only choose to stay engaged in the political process. They are literally the future. Respect them. Help them see the light without being hurtful. Help Bernie turn this massive revolution towards helping Hillary get elected and towards helping the Democratic party become the party you’ve always wanted and can be proud of instead of one you have to shake your head at half the time. None of this is easy but one thing it’s going to take is a little patience, some self-awareness and a little grace. From you.
I don’t think I’ve posted a blog on this site for years. Be nice to each other. Together, Bernie and Hillary fans can make Tump the biggest political loser in all of American history and that will be an enormous victory for Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, all Democrats, all Progressives, Smart People everywhere and the entire planet.
